Hammertoes, how can we help?

Hammertoe is the abnormal bending or one or more of the join lesser toe of the foot, this often results in increased pressure on the tops of your toes especially when in shoes.

Hammertoe is usually caused by ill-fitting shoes, traumatic injury, compensation from a high arch foot or bunions and even genetics.

Treatment for hammertoes depends on the severity and length of the deformity.

- A good place to start is by making sure you have corrected fitting footwear as wearing shoes that are too small can force the joint of your toes into an abnormal position. This makes it impossible for your muscles to stretch out.

- If your hammertoes are cause by having a high arch foot, then Custom insoles designed to redistribute the pressures under your foot can help improve your toe position

- Otto-form wedges – Special made silicone wedges can be made by our podiatrist here at sole therapy to sit under your toes and help correct the deformity

- If your Hammertoes are left untreated and become severe and fixed into place you many need surgical correction depending on the effect they have on your quality of life.

If you are concerned about your Hammertoes come in and have one of our expert podiatrist here at SOLE THERAPY asses them and guide you on the best possible treatment plan!
