MOST COMMON FOOT PROBLEMS
HEEL AND ARCH PAIN
This condition is most often caused by plantar fasciitis commonly misdiagnosed as a heel spur. Faulty foot structure and poor footwear is the most common cause of heel pain. In the beginning, we have found using soft tissue therapy, exercises, strapping/taping and better footwear can prevent pain from this condition. Chronic cases are helped with orthotic therapy, dry needling, foot mobilisation and strengthening exercise therapy.
BUNIONS and clawed toes
Bunions are one of the most common foot disorders that affect people. We aim to see patients with healthy feet preventing the early development of bunions. Bunions begin with a leaning of the big toe, gradually changing the angle of the bones over the years and slowly producing the characteristic bump. The bony bump may cause the other toes to claw and become painful. By using mobilization techniques and orthotic therapy, we can prevent surgery for this condition.
ACHILLES TENDON DISORDERS
Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the Achilles tendon that runs down the back of the leg and inserts into the heel bone. This can progress to Achilles tendonitis(degeneration) if left untreated. Treatment involves a series of modalities like soft-tissue therapy, mobilisation and dry needling. Faulty foot posture may lead to Achilles problems and in this case, orthotic therapy and better footwear will help this.
A neuroma causes sharp, burning pain in the ball of your foot accompanied by stinging or numbness in your toes. By redistributing forefoot pressure we can prevent surgery of this condition.
COMMON CONDITIONS WE TREAT
Unresolved tiptoe or walking on the balls of the feet after the age of 3 needs to be examined and assessed by our qualified podiatrists. Early intervention may prevent problems in your child’s future development. Toe walking can cause the Achilles tendons and calf muscles to shorten and affect gait and walking patterns later on in life.
IN-TOE or OUT-TOE WALKING
In-toeing or pigeon toe walking means when a child or adult walks or runs with the feet turn inward instead of pointing straight ahead & can cause a problem if not treated early. Out-toeing means that the feet curve excessively outwards instead of pointing straight ahead & should be seen by Sole Therapy podiatrist’s to prevent this position affecting hip and knee alignment.
HIGH ARCH or FLAT FEET
Too much of an arch or too little can manifest problems in the growing child or become painful and uncomfortable as we age. Our aim is to improve your foot posture without the need for aids, appliances or surgery in the future. The feet are important as they hold the body upright. Proper alignment of the feet is essential to helping back and knee function. Get your feet screened today by one of our qualified podiatrist’s.
SPORTS INJURY and ANKLE PROBLEMS
At Sole Therapy we understand how important it is for our athletes to recover quickly. We have experienced programs that deliver results with our aim to help you get back on your feet in the fastest time possible. The feet and ankles take a pounding and are commonly injured through overuse. At Sole Therapy we are qualified to treat all musculoskeletal injuries from the lower back to the feet in children and adults.
COMMON SKIN AND NAIL CARE CONDITIONS
Warts can develop anywhere on the foot, but typically they appear on the bottom (plantar side) of the foot. Plantar warts are a virus and easily treated with Sole Therapy.
CORNS, CALLUS, CRACKED or SPLITTING SKIN
Corns and callus are areas of thickened skin that occur from abnormal pressure. Thick, hardened layers of skin develop in areas of friction between your shoe and your foot. Cracked heels or splitting of the skin are common things we treat. A general treatment appointment can remove corns, callus and we can treat your cracked or splitting skin.
INGROWN TOE NAILS
This condition occurs when the corner or side of a toenail grows into the flesh, causing the toe to become painful, red, hot or swollen. It is important to treat ingrown nails as soon as they occur. Ingrown nails can be treated with Sole Therapy without the need for local anaesthetic. We also conduct ingrown toenail surgery if a client requires this procedure. Most ingrowing nails are preventable with regular general treatments from our qualified podiatry team.
NAIL AND SKIN FUNGUS
A fungal nail infection, referred to in medical terms as onychomycosis, occurs when fungi (a kind of microorganism) infects your nails. Dry scaly skin, itching, inflammation and small blisters, usually on the bottom of the foot and between the toes is referred as skin fungus or athletes foot. General skin and nail care from our Podiatrists combined with our recommended topical solutions that we sell in our clinic work best to resolve these problems.
