Seniors Foot Health
AS OUR FEET GROW OLDER, THEY NATURALLY DEVELOP MORE PROBLEMS.
Painful and uncomfortable feet are not a natural part of growing old or something to ‘put up with’. A lot can be done to improve comfort, relieve pain and keep you on your feet for life.
The condition of our feet often provides early indications of conditions such as diabetes, arthritis and circulatory disease. For this reason, the human foot is sometimes called the ‘mirror of health’.
Look out for signs such as dry skin, brittle nails, burning and tingling sensations, feelings of cold, numbness, and discolouration. Always seek the opinion of our podiatrist’s when any of these signs occur.
For senior citizens the value of podiatry is much more than the removal of corns or calluses, at Sole Therapy we offer a comprehensive range of services to cater to all the individual needs of our clients to help them live an active long life. Sole Therapy aims to improve the quality of life for our patients. Peripheral neuropathy, a result of nerve damage, often causes weakness, numbness and pain in the feet.
Poor circulation of the legs and feet can lead to serious complications including open wounds that don’t heal properly.
ARTHRITIS AND FOOT CARE
Arthritis can affect any of the movable joints in the feet. This can result in foot deformities and pain.
ACQUIRED FLAT FOOT
The posterior tibial tendon serves as one of the major supporting structures of the foot and arch. Injury may result in pain and a lowered arch.
Poor foot posture can lead to falls.
CORNS & CALLOUS
Corns and callus are areas of thickened skin that occur from abnormal pressure.
Cracked heels are caused by cracking or splitting of the skin.
A fungal nail infection, referred to in medical terms as onychomycosis, occurs when fungi (a kind of microorganism) infect your nails.
